What 'l'intervista' covers: An interview (l'intervista) is one of the media text types you must be able to recognise AND write. It is a conversation in which an interviewer (l'intervistatore / l'intervistatrice) asks a guest (l'intervistato/a — l'ospite) a series of questions. You need the words to introduce a guest, ask polite questions, and close the conversation. Learn the deck below, then use it in the reading and writing sections.

Oggi parliamo con …Today we are speaking with …
Posso chiederle …?May I ask you …?
Come si è avvicinato/a a …?How did you get into …?
What was your biggest challenge?
To finish, we thank you for your time.
Why this matters: These words let you both answer reading/listening questions about an interview and write one yourself in Paper 1. Reusing the right text-type vocabulary is how you score Criterion A (Language) and Criterion C (Conceptual understanding).

What makes a text an interview: Examiners reward you for using the conventions of the text type. An interview is built from question–answer pairs (domanda–risposta), framed by a short introduction of the guest and a closing thank-you. The register is usually semiformale (semi-formal): you address a respected guest with Lei, politely but warmly.

Question openers (use these to ask politely)

  • Come si è avvicinato/a a…? — How did you get into…?
  • Che cosa significa per lei…? — What does… mean to you?
  • Ci può raccontare come…? — Can you tell us how…?
  • Che consiglio darebbe a…? — What advice would you give…?
  • Perché è importante per lei…? — Why is… important to you?

Buone domande (open)

  • «Come si è sentito quando…?»
  • «Perché ha scelto questo percorso?»
  • «Qual è stata la parte più difficile?»

Domande deboli (closed / informal)

  • «Ti piace?» (domanda sì/no + tu)
  • «Sei famoso?» (troppo diretta, tu)
  • «Ti piace lo sport?» (chiusa)
Keep the register consistent: Decide on Lei before you start and keep it across every question — mixing Lei and tu breaks the tone and costs you Criterion C. Connectors such as inoltre (besides), tuttavia (however) and perciò (therefore) make the answers sound developed.

Read like Paper 2: Here is a short interview — the kind of text Paper 2 (Reading) gives you. Read it once just for the general idea; don't worry about every word. Tap the audio button to hear it, or Mostra traduzione if you get stuck. Then we'll do one exam question together.

—Come si è avvicinata all'apicoltura?

  2. Find it in the text. Look for «consiglio»: «—Che consiglio darebbe ai giovani? —Direi loro: siate pazienti e curiosi.»
Reading technique: For a «secondo il testo» (according to the text) question, find the exact line that proves your answer — in an interview, match the question word («consiglio», «più bella») to the line that answers it.

Registro semiformale (Lei). Scrivi tra le 250 e le 400 parole.

Interview structure — 5 steps

1

Introduce the guest

Present who they are and why.

2

First question

Open with a feeling/experience question in Lei. «Come si è sentito quando…?»

3

Develop a point

Ask about preparation/challenge and give a developed answer. «Come si è preparato? —Mi esercitavo ogni giorno…»

4

Ask for advice

A «Che consiglio…?» question with a thoughtful reply. «Dovrebbero avere pazienza…»

5

Thank & close

Round off with thanks.

Introduce → Open → Develop → Advice → Thank

Modello: i 5 passi in azione

L'intervista scritta, passo dopo passo

Perché prende punti — why it scores: This answer hits all three Paper 1 criteria — here's what earns each one:

A — Language /12

  • Consistent Lei + polite question forms
  • Connectors: «perché», «perciò»
  • Topic vocabulary, used accurately

B — Message /12

  • Task fully done: intro + three Q&A pairs + close
  • Answers developed with concrete detail, not yes/no

C — Conceptual /6

  • Interview conventions: an intro of the guest
  • Question–answer pairs throughout
  • A closing thank-you, semi-formal tone

Comprensione orale — un'intervista radiofonica

Paper 2 tests listening (25 marks): you hear 3 short clips, each played twice, and you never see the words. Read the questions first, then listen and reveal the answers.

(How did her love of cooking come about?)
  2. Che consiglio dà Sofia ai giovani cuochi? (What advice does she give young cooks?)

“Today we welcome Sofia Riva, a young chef from Naples who has just opened her first restaurant. Ms Riva, how did your love of cooking come about?” “Ever since I was a child I helped my grandmother in the kitchen, and little by little cooking became my passion.” “What was the biggest challenge?” “Without a doubt, winning the customers' trust; however the effort was worth it.” “What advice do you give young cooks?” “Be patient and don't give up.” “We thank you for your time and good luck!”

—Come è nata l'idea? —Abbiate pazienza e cominciate in piccolo. La ringraziamo per il suo tempo.»

Vero o falso? [2 marks]
