What a 'post sui social' is: A social media post (un post sui social) is one of the personal text types you may be asked to write in Paper 1. It speaks directly to an online audience — a caption, an announcement or a short appeal, usually with a hook, a personal tone and a call to action. Learn the words below as a deck, then use them in the reading and writing sections.
il post / pubblicare un post
the post / to post
il/la follower — i follower
the follower — followers

the comment / to comment

Give a like if you agree.
Condividete il post con i vostri amici.Share the post with your friends.
Why this matters: A post has its own conventions — a hook, emojis, hashtags, direct address and a call to action. Using them is exactly what earns Criterion C (Conceptual understanding); the topic words earn Criterion A (Language).

Have something to say: Examiners reward developed ideas, not just vocabulary. Around social media posts, the common debates are: engagement vs vanity metrics, being authentic vs chasing likes, and using a platform to inform or to help. Take a position and back it up.

Opinion phrases (use these to introduce a view)

  • Secondo me… / Dal mio punto di vista… — In my opinion… / From my point of view…
  • Mi sembra che… / Penso che… — It seems to me that… / I think that…
  • La cosa più importante è… — The most important thing is…
  • Da un lato… dall'altro lato… — On the one hand… on the other hand…
  • Sono (del tutto) d'accordo con… — I (completely) agree with…

Vantaggi (benefits)

  • Un post può informare e sensibilizzare.
  • Aiuta a organizzare eventi e a fare volontariato.
  • Coinvolge le persone e crea una comunità.
Link your ideas: Connectors lift your answer from a list into an argument: inoltre (besides), tuttavia / però (however), quindi / perciò (therefore), anche se (although). Use at least two or three in any written answer.

Read like Paper 2: Here is a short social media post — the kind of personal text Paper 2 (Reading) gives you. Read it once just for the general idea; don't worry about every word. Tap the audio button to hear it, or Mostra traduzione if you get stuck. Then we'll do one exam question together.

Prima pubblicavo foto qualsiasi e scrivevo testi lunghissimi. Nessuno commentava.

  1. The question — «Secondo l'autore, che cosa rende buono un post?»
  2. Find it in the text.
Reading technique: For a «secondo il testo» (according to the text) question, find the exact line that proves your answer — don't rely on memory or general knowledge.

Post structure — 5 steps

1

A hook

Grab attention, often a question. «Hai due ore libere sabato?»

2

Greeting + who you are

Greet the reader and introduce yourself/the group. «Ciao ragazzi! Sono Luca, dell'associazione…»

3

What and when

Say clearly what the event is and when. «Sabato mattina puliamo il parco…»

4

Call to action

Tell people exactly what to do. «Mettete un », «taggate un amico», «presentatevi alle 9».

5

Close + question

Finish with an encouraging line and a question. «Vi aspettiamo! E voi, cosa fareste? »

Hook → Greeting → What & when → Call to action → Close + question

Modello: i 5 passi in azione

Il post scritto, passo dopo passo

Perché prende punti — why it scores: This answer hits all three Paper 1 criteria — here's what earns each one:

A — Language /12

  • Range of tenses: present «puliamo», imperative «taggate»
  • Connectors and linkers used accurately
  • Topic vocabulary of social media, used well

B — Message /12

  • Task fully done: explains the event AND invites people
  • Ideas developed with concrete details (time, place, what to bring)

C — Conceptual /6

  • Post conventions: a hook, emojis, a hashtag feel
  • Direct address: «taggate», «mettete un »
  • A clear call to action and a closing question

Comprensione orale — il consiglio di Sofia

Paper 2 tests listening (25 marks): you hear 3 short clips, each played twice, and you never see the words. Read the questions first, then listen and reveal the answers.

(What should a post's text be like?)
(What matters more than followers for her?)

Hi, I'm Sofia and I look after my school's social media. My most important tip is simple: write little and clearly. I used to post really long texts and nobody read them. Now I put a nice photo, a few lines, and I always finish with a question, so people comment. Another rule: always reply to whoever writes to you, because it makes the audience feel important. For me, the most important thing isn't followers, but participation.

[1 mark]
