Read like Paper 2: Here is a short blog — the kind of text Paper 2 (Reading) gives you. Then we'll do one exam question together.

  2. Find it in the text.
  3. The answer — Al principio se sintió muy decepcionada.
Reading technique: For a según el texto (according to the text) question, find the exact line that proves your answer — don't rely on memory or general knowledge.

Article structure — 4 steps

1

Title + standfirst

A title and one or two lines that hook the reader.

2

Introduction

Present the cause with a fact. La educación es un derecho humano básico. Sin embargo…

3

Development

Two ways young people can act, signposted. En primer lugar…, En segundo lugar…

4

Conclusion

Sum up with a strong final idea. En conclusión…

Title + standfirst → Intro → Development → Conclusion

Modelo: los 4 pasos en ~100 palabras

El artículo, paso a paso

Por qué funciona — why it works: A strong article does this for each of the three Paper 1 criteria:

A — Language /12

  • Poder + infinitive for options: podemos firmar

B — Message /12

  • Task fully done: presents a cause AND how to defend it peacefully
  • A fact supports the cause; actions are concrete

C — Conceptual /6

  • Article conventions: title and standfirst
  • Ordered paragraphs with signposts
  • Informative voice for a wide readership, with a closing idea
Escucha como en Paper 2: Paper 2 also tests listening (25 marks): you hear short clips and answer questions — but you never see the words. Here's one, simplified. Play it, answer, then reveal the transcript to check.

Comprensión auditiva — una rampa para Álex

Listen to Paula explain how her family fought for her cousin's right to access the library. Try to answer before you reveal the transcript — that's how Paper 2 Listening works.

(What did they do to bring about the change?)

Hola, me llamo Paula.

Hi, my name is Paula. My cousin Álex uses a wheelchair and last year he couldn't get into our village library, because there were only stairs. We thought it was unfair: everyone has the right to access culture. We wrote a letter to the town council and spoke on the local radio. Six months later, they built a ramp and put in a lift. For me, defending other people's rights is our responsibility too.

Listening technique: Read the question first, then listen for that one detail — you don't need to catch every word. In the real exam you hear each clip twice.
