Auszug aus dem Roman „Die Uhr des Großvaters“ (Originaltext): Lena stand vor der Werkstatt ihres Großvaters. Seit der Beerdigung war niemand mehr hier gewesen. „Wir können alles verkaufen“, sagte ihre Mutter. Lena drehte den Schlüssel trotzdem um. Drinnen roch es nach Öl und Holz. Auf der Werkbank lag eine Taschenuhr, daneben ein Zettel: „Für Lena – fast fertig.“ Die Uhr tickte nicht.

- Inhalt. „Im Auszug steht Lena vor seiner Werkstatt. Ihre Mutter will alles verkaufen, aber Lena geht hinein und findet eine Taschenuhr.“
- Deutung 1. „Besonders wichtig finde ich, dass die Erinnerung über die Sinne kommt: Es riecht „nach Öl und Holz“. Die Autorin zeigt Trauer durch Gerüche, nicht durch Tränen.“
- Deutung 2. „Die Uhr ist „fast fertig“, aber sie tickt nicht. Ich deute das so: Die Beziehung ist unvollendet, doch Lena kann sie weiterführen.“
- Bezug zum Werk. „Dieser Moment ist ein Wendepunkt: Danach repariert Lena die Uhr und streitet mit ihrer Mutter um die Werkstatt.“
