Have something to say: Examiners reward developed ideas, not just vocabulary. Around human rights, the common debates are: whether freedom of expression has limits, how to fight everyday discrimination, and whether countries should welcome refugees. Take a position and back it up.

Read like Paper 2: Here is a short blog, the kind of text Paper 2 (Reading) gives you. Read it once just for the general idea; don't worry about every word.

How to work through it

  • Tap the audio button to hear it.
  • Tap Voir la traduction if you get stuck.
  • Then we'll do one exam question together.

  2. Decide, then hunt for proof. Scan for his first reaction: Au début, je pensais que ces questions étaient loin de ma vie, réservées aux adultes ou aux pays lointains.
  3. The answer — Faux. Copy the exact words that prove it — that quote is what earns the mark, not the word 'Faux' on its own.
Reading technique: For Vrai/Faux + justifiez, a tick alone scores zero — you must quote the exact words from the text that prove it. The same rule applies to selon le texte questions: find the line, don't rely on memory.

Article structure — 4 steps

1

Titre + chapeau

A headline, then a one-line chapeau (stand-first) that sums up the angle.

2

Introduction

Set up the subject and challenge a common idea. Pourtant…

3

Développement (2 aspects)

Two linked aspects with connectors.

4

Conclusion

Close with a clear takeaway for the readers.

Why it works: A strong article does this for each of the three Paper 1 criteria:

A — Language /12

  • Topic vocabulary, used accurately

B — Message /12

  • Task fully done: explains why rights concern young people AND how to defend them
  • Ideas developed with school examples (bullying, exclusion)

C — Conceptual /6

  • Article conventions: a headline + a chapeau (stand-first)
  • Semi-formal register, addressed to the readership, not one friend
  • A structured argument: introduction → two-aspect développement → conclusion
Écoute comme en Paper 2: Paper 2 also tests listening (25 marks): you hear short clips and answer questions — but you never see the words. Here's one, simplified. Play it, answer, then reveal the transcript to check.

Paper 2 also tests listening (25 marks). Read the questions first, then listen — you hear the clip twice but never see the words. Reveal the answers when you're ready.

Hi, I'm Nadia. The 20th of November is International Children's Rights Day. For the occasion, my class prepared an exhibition in the town-hall lobby. We chose three rights: the right to go to school, the right to be protected from child labour and the right to play. On our posters we explain that, around the world, millions of children work instead of studying. More than three hundred visitors came. For me, knowing your rights is the first step towards defending them.

  1. Dans le hall de la mairie.
  3. Les connaître.
Listening technique: Read the question first, then listen for that one detail — you don't need to catch every word. In the real exam you hear each clip twice.
