How does the HL technology extension relate to contexts?
Technology affects behaviour, cognition and wellbeing across all contexts.
Positive effects of technology?
Connection, access to information/learning, health tools, productivity.

Lower wellbeing, disrupted sleep/attention, social comparison, overuse.

How it's used (active vs passive), and the person and context.

Active (messaging) tends to help wellbeing; passive scrolling tends to lower it.

Correlational — it can't confirm technology causes the effect.
Why be cautious about 'screens cause harm'?
Reverse causation or a third variable could explain the correlation.
One limitation of technology research?
Self-reported screen time is inaccurate and the field changes fast.
How is the HL technology topic assessed?
On Paper 3 — a source-based data paper (HL only).
Which concepts does technology link to?
