Culture layers onto every context (health, development, relationships, cognition).
How does culture influence behaviour?
Through cultural dimensions, enculturation, and the meaning it gives behaviour.
What is a cultural dimension?
A broad value (e.g. individualism–collectivism) used to compare cultures.
Why use both emic and etic to study culture?
Etic compares cultures; emic captures local meaning — together they avoid imposed-etic bias.
What is the imposed etic?
Applying one culture's measure everywhere as if it were neutral.
What is the stereotyping risk in cultural research?
Treating cultural averages as truths about every individual.
