Key Idea: Reading skills cover the eight question types in Paper 2 Reading. In every one, the answer is in the text, and you find it by locating the right line.
Multiple choice
- {{Choisissez la bonne réponse.|Choose the correct answer.}} One correct option, no half marks.
- Read all the options, then eliminate the wrong ones.
- A repeated word is not proof.
True/False + justify
- Write the decision AND the words that prove it. The tick alone scores nothing.
- Quote only the key words, not a whole paragraph.
Vocabulary in context
- Two forms: «Quel mot signifie… ?» and «Trouvez dans les lignes… les mots qui signifient…».
- Read the whole sentence: the context decides the meaning.
- Watch faux amis: «actuellement» means currently, not actually.
Gap-fill
- The word comes from the text or from a list.
- Copy it exactly: spelling, accents and the right form (singular or plural, tense, gender).
Matching
- Each option is used once, and one is usually left over.
- Match the sure pairs first, then cross out the options you have used.
- Match on meaning, not on one shared word.
Sentence completion
- The finished sentence must be true according to the text, not just sensible.
- Two kinds: complete it with words from the text (often three at most), or match a start to its ending.
Reference words
- Words like «le», «cela», «là», «son» point back to something said before.
- Read the lines just before, then put the noun back in to test it.
- It must agree in gender and number. Answer with the noun, not the word.
Short answer
- A few words with the right information: content over style.
- When told «avec vos propres mots», paraphrase.
- Never leave it blank.
Read for meaning, never for a single matching word.
Your vrai/faux answer is just «Faux». How many marks? None. Add a short quote from the text as proof.
In matching you have 6 options for 5 items. Why? One option is spare.
The word is «le», but your referent is feminine. Right? No. «Le» needs a masculine noun.
An ending sounds sensible, but the text does not say it. Choose it? No. Only the text decides.
Told «avec vos propres mots», can you copy the line? No. Say it in your own words.
