Key concepts in About Paper 2 Reading

Key Idea: Paper 2 Reading has 3 texts that get harder. It is worth 40 marks and takes around an hour. You can re-read the texts as often as you like.

The rubric

  • {{Répondez à toutes les questions.|Answer all the questions.}}
  • {{Chaque question vaut [1 point], sauf indication contraire.|Each question is worth [1 mark] unless stated otherwise.}}

Format & rubric

  1. Survole — Skim the text.
  2. Lis la question — Read the question before you hunt.
  3. Scanne — Look for the key words.
  4. Localise — Find the exact line.
  5. Réponds — Answer, using that line.

Traps

  • Don't answer from memory: check the line.
  • Look for synonyms and paraphrase, not only the same words.
  • For vrai/faux, give the decision and the quote.
The answer is always in the text. Your job is to find its line.

Which text is the hardest? The third. The texts get harder as you go.

A question shows no mark. How much is it worth? One mark, unless the paper says otherwise.

For vrai/faux, is a tick enough? No. You also need the words from the text that prove it.

The question says «heureux». The text says «content». Same idea? Yes. Texts often use a synonym, so read for meaning.
