Key Idea: Personal texts are the informal email, the blog, the diary and the social media post. For each one, know who reads it, which register to use and the parts it needs.
Informal email/letter
- Reader: someone you know. Use «tu» and a warm, chatty tone.
- Parts: greeting → opening → body → wrap-up → sign-off.
- Start with «Salut [prénom] !», end with «Bises,» and your name.
- Ask your reader a question so they write back.
Blog
- Readers: many people. Informal but public: «vous» or a general «tu».
- Parts: catchy title → hook → body → question to readers → upbeat close.
- Open and close with «Salut à tous !» … «À très bientôt !».
Personal diary
- Reader: yourself. Write in «je», with an intimate tone.
- Parts: date → opening → what happened → feelings → looking ahead.
- Never skip the date, «Cher journal» or your reflection.
Social media post
- Readers: your followers. Short and punchy, with «tu» or a close «vous».
- Parts: hook → greeting → message → call to action → hashtags.
- Use commands such as «partagez», «venez».
Ask first who will read it. That one answer sets your «tu» or «vous» and your tone.
Which text type starts with the date? The diary.
Who reads a diary? Only you. That is why it uses «je».
What comes last in a social media post? Hashtags, just after the call to action.
Which two texts turn to the reader with a question? The email and the blog.
What does «Coucou !» mean? Hey! An informal greeting for a friend.
