English A: Language and Literature
Aimnova offers free IB English A: Language and Literature HL revision notes for first assessment 2026. This is a skills course, so the notes are built around what the exams reward — close reading of unseen non-literary texts, a comparative essay on two literary works, the Individual Oral, and the HL-only HL essay — with a 22-technique analysis toolkit, worked model answers, and spaced-repetition flashcards. No sign-up required to read the notes.
IB English A: Language and Literature HL shares the same core analytical skills as SL — reading closely and arguing about how a writer's choices of language, structure, and style shape meaning — but adds the HL essay: a 1200–1500-word formal exploration of a line of inquiry into one of the texts studied. HL rewards a wider range of reference and more sustained, independent argument, so the notes push the analysis toolkit further and model essay-length responses.
These notes are organised across five study units that mirror the assessment: Analysing Texts (the analysis toolkit taught up front), Non-literary Text Types, Paper 1 (guided analysis of unseen non-literary texts), Paper 2 and the Individual Oral, and the HL Essay. You revise for Paper 1 (guided textual analysis), Paper 2 (comparative essay), and the HL essay with worked model answers throughout.
