Each stage is a filter: Users are lost at every one, and the earlier the loss the more invisible it is: nobody reports not having picked a product up.
That is why desirability is not decoration — it is the stage that decides whether the other two ever happen.

ACT and the four pleasures fit together: ACT describes the sequence; the four pleasures describe what is felt at each stage.
Attract is where physio and ideo pleasure do most work; converse is mostly psycho-pleasure; transact is where usefulness and socio-pleasure decide whether the product is kept.
How this is tested — suggesting how the ACT model creates positive emotional responses. It comes up two ways:
Paper 1 — multiple choice
- Identify the ACT stage a described feature belongs to.
- Match a stage to desirability, usability or usefulness.
Paper 2 — analysing a product
- Apply the ACT model to a named product.
- Explain why a product failed at one of the three stages.
The trap: Treating the three as synonyms for good design. They are sequential and each fails differently — a product nobody notices, a product nobody understands, and a product that disappoints.
A company launches a reusable coffee cup that sells poorly despite good reviews. Apply the ACT model to diagnose the problem and recommend changes.
