If you only have limited time before your IB Math AI SL exam, stop trying to treat the whole syllabus equally. Some topics return so often that they should dominate your revision plan.
The goal is not to ignore everything else. The goal is to secure the most likely marks first, then use leftover time to patch weaker areas.
The 5 topics you must revise first
1. Statistics
- Chi-squared tests
- IQR and outliers
- Interpreting results in context
Statistics is high value because it rewards structure. You can know the method and still lose marks if the conclusion is weak, so revise both parts together.
2. Financial maths
- Loans
- Interest
- Total paid and repayment interpretation
This is one of the cleanest βeasy marks if preparedβ areas in the course.
3. Probability
- Binomial distribution
- Normal distribution
- Question wording precision
Quick warning: probability is not hard because of the calculator. It is hard because students rush the wording.
4. Functions and modelling
- Reading graphs
- Interpreting features
- Explaining what your result means
Modelling is where examiners can see whether you understand the maths or are just copying a process.
5. Trigonometry
- Sin and cosine models
- Amplitude and period
- Real-world interpretation
Fast revision rule
If a topic shows up often and carries interpretation marks, it deserves more of your time than a low-frequency topic you barely see.
Final tip
These topics appear so often that mastering them gives you the fastest route to better marks.
