The IPAT equation
Environmental impact can be expressed as:
- I = P × A × T
- I = Environmental Impact
- P = Population size
- A = Affluence (consumption per person)
- T = Technology (impact per unit of consumption)
A small, wealthy population can have MORE impact than a large, poor one. The average American has ~16x the carbon footprint of the average Indian.
