Why this matters: The examiner can tell an essay from any other text by its register (formal, impersonal) and its structure (introduction → both sides → reasoned conclusion). Reusing these connectors accurately is exactly what scores Criterion A (Language) and Criterion C (Conceptual understanding).
Build a balanced argument: An essay is judged on balance: you must present both sides before you take a position. Pick a debatable topic (a phone ban at school, social media, online vs in-person learning), give one or two developed reasons on each side, then conclude with a reasoned opinion — not a rant.

Stay objective: An essay uses an impersonal, objective tone: prefer «si» and «i sostenitori / i critici» over «io penso…» in the body. Save the first-person opinion («In conclusione, ritengo…») for the conclusion. Link ideas with tuttavia (nevertheless), però (however) and di conseguenza (consequently).

Reading technique: For a «secondo il testo» (according to the text) question, find the exact line that proves your answer. In an essay, the writer's own opinion is almost always in the conclusion («In conclusione…» / «Per concludere…»), not the body.
