Key Idea: The individual oral (IA) is a talk in German with your teacher. You get 15 minutes to prepare one photo, then you talk for 12 to 15 minutes. It is worth 30 marks: 25% of your grade.
| Step | What happens | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Preparation | Choose one of two photos and write up to 10 bullet points | 15 min |
| Part 1: Presentation | Describe the photo, say what it means, link it to its theme | 3–4 min |
| Part 2: Discussion | Your teacher asks more about your presentation | 4–5 min |
| Part 3: Conversation | You talk about at least one other theme | 5–6 min |
| Criterion | Marks | What it checks |
|---|---|---|
| A Language | 12 | Many words and structures, few mistakes, clear pronunciation |
| B1 The photo | 6 | Describing and explaining the photo |
| B2 The conversation | 6 | Relevant, developed answers |
| C Interaction | 6 | Understanding and keeping the talk going |
| Total | 30 |
Three moves for every answer
- Develop: {{…, weil … Zum Beispiel …|…, because … For example …}}
- Vary: one bigger structure, such as {{Wenn mehr Leute mitmachen würden, …|If more people took part, …}}
- Ask back: {{Und was meinen Sie?|And what do you think?}}
A one-word answer like «Ja.» loses marks on B and C at once.
Which part is the longest? Part 3, the conversation: 5–6 minutes.
Which criterion has the most marks? A, language: 12 of 30.
You did not understand the question. What do you say? «Können Sie die Frage bitte wiederholen?»
Perfect grammar, flat ideas. Which criterion do you lose? B: your ideas are not developed.
Can you read your notes aloud? No. Glance at them only.
