Read like Paper 2: Here is a short blog — the kind of text Paper 2 (Reading) gives you. Read it once just for the general idea.

How to read it

  • Don't worry about every word.
  • Tap the audio button to hear it, or Übersetzung anzeigen if you get stuck.
  • Then we'll do one exam question together.

  1. The question — „Was eröffnete dem Text zufolge an der Stelle des Restaurants „Zur Linde“?“
  2. Find it in the text.
  3. The answer — Eine Schnellrestaurant-Kette eröffnete.
Reading technique: For a „dem Text zufolge“ (according to the text) question, find the exact line that proves your answer — don't rely on memory or general knowledge.
TeilAuf DeutschEnglish
Inhalt 1Beschreibe die Ergebnisse eurer Untersuchung.Describe the results of your investigation.
Give recommendations for protecting what is local.
LängeSchreibe zwischen 450 und 600 Wörtern.Write 450–600 words.

Report structure — 4 steps

1

Factual title

A factual title. „Bericht: Wie global ist unsere Hauptstraße?“

2

Purpose

Say what you wanted to find out. „Ziel der Untersuchung war es herauszufinden, …“

3

Findings

What you found, with figures.

4

Recommendations

What should change, then your name. „Wir empfehlen der Stadt, …“

Title → Purpose → Findings → Recommendations

Modell: die 4 Schritte in ~90 Wörtern

Der fertige Bericht, Schritt für Schritt

  1. Bericht: Wie global ist unsere Hauptstraße? Eine Untersuchung der Klasse 11a
– Marta Klein, Klasse 11a
Warum es funktioniert — what makes it strong: A strong report does these things for each of the three Paper 1 criteria:

A — Language /12

  • Perfekt: „haben gezählt“, „haben geschlossen“
  • Connectors: „aber“, „heute“ vs „vor zehn Jahren“
  • Globalisation vocabulary: „die Kette“, „regional“, „die Anwohner“

B — Message /12

  • Task fully done: describes the results AND recommends action
  • Findings backed with figures

C — Conceptual /6

  • Report conventions: a factual title
  • Purpose, findings, recommendations, in that order
  • A neutral tone: numbers instead of feelings

Hör wie in Paper 2: Paper 2 also tests listening (25 marks): you hear short clips and answer questions — but you never see the words. Here's one, simplified. Play it, answer, then reveal the transcript to check.

Hörverstehen — Lucias Markt

Listen to Lucia talk about the market in her town. Try to answer before you reveal the transcript — that's how Paper 2 Listening works.

(According to the audio, why does it worry Lucia that people no longer go to the market?)

Hi, I'm Lucia. In my village we've always had a market on Saturdays, where the farmers sell fruit and vegetables from the area. A little while ago a big supermarket belonging to an international chain opened, and a lot of people stopped going to the market. It worries me, because the market gives work to the families in the village and the produce is fresher. That's why I try to shop there whenever I can. I think it's worth preserving what is our own.

Listening technique: Read the question first, then listen for that one detail — you don't need to catch every word. In the real exam you hear each clip twice.
