Have something to say: Examiners reward developed ideas, not just vocabulary. Take a position and back it up.

The common debates (around peace and conflict)

  • whether dialogue is always better than force
  • how young people can build peace at school
  • the role of solidarity and humanitarian aid

Opinion phrases (use these to introduce a view)

  • À mon avis… / De mon point de vue… — In my opinion… / From my point of view…
  • Il me semble que… / Je pense que… — It seems to me that… / I think that…
  • Le plus important, c'est… — The most important thing is…
  • D'un côté… de l'autre côté… — On the one hand… on the other hand…
— I (completely) agree with…

Link your ideas: Connectors lift your answer from a list into an argument: de plus (besides), cependant (however), par conséquent (therefore), bien que (although). Use at least two or three in any written answer.

Read like Paper 2: Here is a short blog, the kind of text Paper 2 (Reading) gives you. Read it once just for the general idea; don't worry about every word.

  • Then we'll do one exam question together.

  2. Decide, then hunt for proof. Scan for what she thought at first: « Au début, je pensais qu'un conflit se réglait seulement par la force ou en se taisant. »
  3. The answer — Faux. » Copy the exact words that prove it — that quote is what earns the mark, not the word 'Faux' on its own.
Reading technique: For « Vrai/Faux + justifiez », a tick alone scores zero — you must quote the exact words from the text that prove it. The same rule applies to « selon le texte » questions: find the line, don't rely on memory.

Blog structure — 5 steps

1

Catchy title

A title, often a question. « Et si on construisait la paix, ensemble ? »

2

Greeting + topic

Greet the reader and say what the post is about. »

3

Your experience

Describe how you used to react (imperfect). »

4

Two or three tips

Give advice using the imperative. « Écoutez l'autre », « cherchez un accord », « demandez l'aide d'un médiateur ».

5

Motivating close

Finish with an encouraging line. »

Title → Greeting → Experience → Tips → Close

Modèle : les 5 étapes en action (≈95 mots)

Le blog rédigé, étape par étape

  1. Et si on construisait la paix, ensemble ?
Pourquoi ça marque — why it scores: This answer hits all three Paper 1 criteria — here's what earns each one:

A — Language /12

  • Range of tenses: imparfait « m'énervais », impératif « écoutez »
  • Connectors: « cependant », « d'abord… ensuite… enfin »
  • Topic vocabulary, used accurately

B — Message /12

  • Task fully done: tells the experience AND gives advice
  • Ideas developed with concrete examples

C — Conceptual /6

  • Blog conventions: a catchy title
  • Direct address: « je vous donne », « commencez »
  • A persuasive, personal tone

Écoute comme en Paper 2: Paper 2 also tests listening (25 marks): you hear short clips and answer questions — but you never see the words. Here's one, simplified. Play it, answer, then reveal the transcript to check.

Compréhension orale — le jumelage de Lucas

Paper 2 also tests listening (25 marks). Read the questions first, then listen — you hear the clip twice but never see the words. Reveal the answers when you're ready.

Hi, I'm Lucas. My town, in Burgundy, has been twinned with a small German town since 1962. The twinning was born after the Second World War: the two countries wanted their young people to get to know each other instead of fighting. In the spring I spent ten days with a German family, and my exchange partner, Jonas, will come to my home in July. My great-grandfather fought in the war; he would never have imagined this. For me, peace is also built through friendships between peoples.

  1. Depuis 1962.
  3. Avec des amitiés entre les peuples.
Listening technique: Read the question first, then listen for that one detail — you don't need to catch every word. In the real exam you hear each clip twice.
