La versión corta: Una imagen sensorial es un detalle que apela a uno de los cinco sentidos; cuando es concreto, el lector no lee la escena: la vive.

Lee esto y dime qué sentido se te despierta primero:

‘El pan aún caliente, la corteza crujiendo bajo los dedos, el olor a levadura llenando la cocina.’ No hace falta que nadie te explique que es un buen recuerdo: lo hueles, lo tocas, casi lo oyes. Eso es una imagen sensorial. En lugar de decirte ‘la cocina era acogedora’, el autor te lo hace sentir. Fíjate en las dos cosas que hay que precisar siempre:

Qué sentido

Precisa cuál de los cinco sentidos se activa: vista, oído, olfato, gusto o tacto. No basta con decir ‘imagen sensorial’; di ‘una imagen táctil’, ‘una imagen olfativa’. A veces se mezclan dos —‘un silencio dulce’—: eso es sinestesia.

Qué evoca

Lo importante no es el detalle en sí, sino la atmósfera o la emoción que despierta. Un mismo objeto —una vela— puede oler a hogar o a velatorio según lo que el autor construya alrededor. Interpreta qué siente el lector gracias a ese detalle concreto.

El paso clave: Nombra qué sentido apela cada imagen (vista, oído, olfato, gusto, tacto) y, sobre todo, interpreta qué evoca: ¿qué atmósfera crea?, ¿qué emoción despierta en el lector?, ¿por qué elige el autor ese detalle concreto y no otro?
