IB Philosophy SL Notes

Philosophy

Aimnova offers free IB Philosophy revision notes covering the core theme "Being human" — identity, consciousness, freedom, personhood and human nature — the optional themes, and the twelve prescribed texts studied for the open-book Paper 2. Each topic includes clear explanations, worked argument maps, spaced-repetition flashcards, and IB-style practice questions with AI feedback — no sign-up required to read the notes.

IB Philosophy is not a body of facts to memorise — it is a skill. The whole course, and every markscheme, rewards the same thing: building a clear argument, testing it against objections, and reaching a reasoned judgement. These notes model that method throughout, so you learn to do philosophy rather than just describe what philosophers thought.

The notes are organised by unit and topic according to the official IB syllabus, so you can revise systematically for Paper 1 (the core-theme stimulus essay in Section A and the optional-theme essay in Section B, 40%), the open-book Paper 2 prescribed-text essay (30%), and the philosophical-analysis Internal Assessment (25%). The Paper 1 stimulus technique — turning an unseen image, quotation or scenario into a philosophical problem — is built in alongside close reading of the prescribed texts and the evaluation skills the top band demands.

What's included

  • The core theme "Being human", the optional themes, and the prescribed texts
  • Argument-building and evaluation modelled on every topic, not just description
  • Stimulus-essay and open-book close-reading technique built in
  • Spaced-repetition flashcards for key thinkers, arguments, and objections
  • IB-style practice questions with AI marking and feedback
  • Free to access — no account required for notes

How to use Philosophy notes

  1. 1Start with a unit overview. Click any unit heading to see all topics — the core theme, the optional themes, and the prescribed texts.
  2. 2Read micro-topic notes. Each topic links to detailed, exam-aligned notes that show how to build and evaluate an argument, not just report a view.
  3. 3Test with flashcards. Every topic has spaced-repetition flashcards to lock key thinkers, arguments, and objections into your memory.
  4. 4Practise exam questions. Apply what you know with Paper 1 stimulus essays and open-book prescribed-text practice, and get AI feedback on your answers.
