Math AA Paper Breakdown

Know the format inside-out so you can allocate your time and tailor your revision to each paper type.

Paper 1SL + HLSL 1h 30m · HL 2h40% SL · 30% HL

NON-calculator paper. Short-answer and extended-response questions across Number & Algebra, Functions, Trigonometry, Statistics, and Calculus — HL extends to the additional HL topics. Exact answers (surds, fractions, π) and full working are required.

Paper 2SL + HLSL 1h 30m · HL 2h40% SL · 30% HL

Technology-active (GDC required) paper. Short-answer and extended-response questions across the whole syllabus, where the calculator supports — but does not replace — shown method.

Why Practice Math AA Mock Exams?

  • Train for the no-calculator Paper 1 — exact values and by-hand technique under time pressure
  • Practise time management at roughly 1 minute per mark (SL 1.5h, HL 2h per paper)
  • Build GDC fluency for Paper 2 (solving, integration, distributions)
  • HL: rehearse the Paper 3 investigations — pattern-spotting, conjecture, and proof under time
  • Learn the mark scheme language IB examiners reward (M/A/R marks)
  • Reduce exam anxiety through repeated realistic practice
  • Spot the topic gaps in algebra, trig, or calculus before the real exam

Math AA Exam Tips from Top Scorers

Keep Paper 1 answers exact

Paper 1 is non-calculator — leave answers as surds, fractions, or multiples of π. A decimal where an exact value is expected loses the accuracy mark.

Show all working

Marks are awarded for method, not just the answer. Even with an arithmetic slip you keep the method (M) marks if your working is clear.

Set your GDC mode in Paper 2

Check radians vs degrees before any trig calculation, and write down what you entered and what the GDC returned as evidence of method.

Never work backwards in "show that"

For "show that" and "prove" questions the result is given — derive it from the start. You score nothing for restating the answer.

Math AA Mock Exams — FAQ

Do you have IB Math AA mock exams for SL and HL?
Yes. We offer Math AA mock exams at both SL (Paper 1 and Paper 2) and HL (Paper 1, Paper 2, and the extended Paper 3 investigations). Each paper targets a different mix of algebra, functions, trigonometry, statistics, and calculus for variety.
Is Paper 1 really non-calculator?
Yes. Math AA Paper 1 is sat without a GDC at both SL and HL, so our Paper 1 mock is non-calculator too — practise exact-value technique and by-hand algebra and calculus. Paper 2 (and HL Paper 3) are GDC-active.
Can I practise a single paper — Paper 1, 2, or HL Paper 3?
Yes. Each paper type is a separate mock exam, so you can focus on the non-calculator Paper 1, the GDC-active Paper 2, or the HL Paper 3 investigations independently.
What feedback do I get after a Math AA mock exam?
Instant AI grading with per-question marks, examiner-style feedback, and a personalised study plan targeting your weakest Math AA topics.
