What 'médias et communication' covers: Communication and media (médias et communication) is part of the theme Human ingenuity. Learn the words below as a deck, then use them in the reading and writing sections.

Je m'informe surtout sur les réseaux sociaux.I mainly get my news from social media.
Je suis quelques influenceurs sur la mode.I follow a few influencers about fashion.
Avant de partager, je vérifie la source. Before sharing, I check the source.
Je fais attention à protéger ma vie privée.I'm careful to protect my privacy.
Beaucoup de jeunes quittent les réseaux classiques. Many young people leave the traditional networks.
Why this matters: This vocabulary turns up in every skill — a reading article about influencers, a listening clip on choosing a platform, a Paper 1 social-media post, or your oral. Reusing the right topic words is how you score Criterion A (Language).

The common debates (the media)

  • social media vs traditional networks
  • the power of influencers and brands
  • screen time and well-being
  • free instant news vs fake news

Opinion phrases (use these to introduce a view)

  • À mon avis… / De mon point de vue… — In my opinion… / From my point of view…
  • Il me semble que… / Je trouve que… — It seems to me that… / I find that…
  • Le plus important, c'est… — The most important thing is…
  • D'un côté… d'un autre côté… — On the one hand… on the other hand…
— I (completely) agree with…

Information

  • les fausses informations, les images truquées
  • s'informer par de courtes vidéos
  • l'éducation aux médias

Social networks

  • les influenceurs, la publicité cachée
  • les influenceurs virtuels
  • être ami avec un prof sur Facebook

Other ways to communicate

  • les lettres écrites à la main
  • les communautés en ligne
  • le doublage des séries

Big questions behind this topic (IB guide, theme Human ingenuity)

Texts on fake news and influencers, and the Paper 1 tasks on them, follow this chain.
Link your ideas: Connectors lift your answer from a list into an argument: de plus (besides), cependant (however), par conséquent (therefore), bien que (although). Use at least two or three in any written answer.

Read like Paper 2: Here is a short opinion post, the kind of text Paper 2 (Reading) gives you on the media. Read it once just for the general idea; don't worry about every word.

  • Tap Voir la traduction if you get stuck.
  • Then we'll do one exam question together.

  2. Scan for the idea, not the words. The definition points to something personal you protect. Look for it in the text: je tiens à ma vie privée.
  3. The answer — la vie privée. Copy the exact words as they appear in the text. The mark is for the correct word from the passage, spelled as written — not for an answer in your own words.
Reading technique: For vocabulaire en contexte (find the word that means…), the answer must be the exact words from the text — copy them as written, don't paraphrase. The same lookup rule applies to selon le texte questions: find the line, don't rely on memory.

Blog structure — 5 steps

1

Catchy title

A title, often a question. Réseaux sociaux : qui contrôle qui ?

2

Greeting + topic

Greet the reader and say what the post is about.

3

Your experience

Describe your old habits in the past (imperfect + passé composé).

4

Two or three tips

Give advice using the vous imperative.

5

Motivating close

Finish with an encouraging line and invite comments. Essayez une semaine, et racontez-moi en commentaire !

Title → Greeting → Experience → Tips → Close

Modèle : les 5 étapes en ~105 mots

Le blog rédigé, étape par étape

  1. Réseaux sociaux : qui contrôle qui ?
Why it works: A strong blog does this for each of the three Paper 1 criteria:

A — Language /12

  • Range of tenses: imparfait je passais, passé composé j'ai eu, impératif désactivez
  • Topic vocabulary, used accurately

B — Message /12

  • Task fully done: describes the writer's habits AND gives advice
  • Ideas developed with concrete detail (five hours a day, the shock)

C — Conceptual /6

  • Blog conventions: a catchy question title + a greeting to readers
  • Direct address (vous) and a personal story
  • An invitation to react: racontez-moi en commentaire
Écoute comme en Paper 2: Paper 2 also tests listening (25 marks): you hear short clips and answer questions — but you never see the words. Here's one, simplified. Play it, answer, then reveal the transcript to check.

Listen to Léa, a young influencer, describe her work. Try to answer before you reveal the transcript — that's how Paper 2 Listening works.

(What really motivates Léa in her job?)

Hi, I'm Léa and I'm a fashion and beauty influencer. Lots of people think you easily earn a lot of money, but that isn't true for most of us. In fact, what motivates me isn't the money: it's my passion and the wish to share my tips. It's also very time-consuming work. In the evening, at ten o'clock, I'm still answering my community's messages. And when I test a product, I always give my honest opinion: if I'm not convinced, I don't share it.

Listening technique: Read the question first, then listen for that one detail — you don't need to catch every word. In the real exam you hear each clip twice.
