- marine biology / a (female) oceanographer
- un masque et un tuba
- a mask and a snorkel
- plonger / une plongée
- to dive / a dive
- un banc de poissons
- a shoal of fish
- les grands fonds
- the deep sea / the ocean depths
- tout a changé / ce jour-là
- everything changed / that day
- Decide, then hunt for proof. Scan for when the passion started: Petite, elle passait déjà ses étés au bord de la mer and Quand j'avais huit ans…. Her passion clearly goes back to childhood — so the statement is false.
- The answer — Faux. Copy the exact words that prove it — that quote is what earns the mark, not the word 'Faux' on its own.
Reading technique: Vrai/Faux + justifiez: For Vrai/Faux + justifiez, a tick alone scores zero: you must quote the exact words from the text that prove it. The real exam states this outright: the two requirements (right answer + right quote) must both be met for the mark.
Reading technique: relier and selon le texte: The same care applies to relier (match a sentence start to its ending) and selon le texte questions: find the line, don't rely on memory.
La tâche — your task: Aujourd'hui, tu as osé prendre la parole devant toute ton école — un moment qui a marqué un tournant pour toi.
La consigne — what you must write: Le soir, tu écris dans ton journal intime.
Diary structure — 4 steps
Date + Cher journal
A diary opens with a date and an intimate greeting.
Narrate the key events in the past.
Mes sentiments
Say how you felt — a diary is about emotions.
Close on what you learned and a private resolution.
Why it works: A strong diary entry does this for each of the three Paper 1 criteria:
A — Language /12
- Topic vocabulary, used accurately
B — Message /12
- Task fully done: narrates the moment, expresses feelings AND reflects
- Ideas developed with concrete details (the pounding heart, the shaking voice)
C — Conceptual /6
- Diary conventions: a date and a Cher journal greeting
- First-person, private and reflective tone
- Feelings and a personal resolution, not just facts
