Define: digital space
An environment created by digital systems where people meet and act, whose boundary and rules are set by its owner.

Who may enter, what may be said, what is shown first.
What is unique to digital space?
Two people in the same space are shown different things, so there is no shared view to point at.

What is function collapse?
Four functions share one online space, so one rule set has to serve all of them and nobody knows which function others are in.
What fails to move online?
The part nobody had written down, because the room used to do it — noticing a lost student, the unplanned conversation.
Why are privacy settings walls?
Channels, close-friends lists and second accounts are people rebuilding by hand the separations a single space removed.

Which barrier is largest and quietest?
Not having a device or the skill — it affects most people and looks like nobody's decision.
Why does work flow differently?
The task crosses the border instead of the worker, so labour rules stay where the worker is.
Why are shutdowns hard to judge?
They stop the reporting of what happens during them, removing the evidence anyone would need to hold the decision to account.

The usual scale mismatch
Decided at company scale, harm lands at personal scale, and only national scale can act.
What decides a country's regulatory reach?
Market size, not sovereignty — so formally equal countries have very unequal power over the same platform.
