IB World Religions Predicted Topics 2027

The shape of World Religions is fixed, which makes the useful prediction a different one from “which tradition comes up”. Paper 1 sets one question on every one of the nine introductory traditions each session, and Paper 2 sets two on each of the six in-depth traditions plus an open-ended question in each section — so the variable is the THEME a question hits, not the religion. The ranking below counts how often each theme and sub-section has actually been asked across fifteen sittings from 2012 to 2025.

Frequently asked questions

Are these official IB World Religions predictions?

No — they are our own analysis of past World Religions papers, not leaked or official IB material. They show which themes and sub-sections have been asked most often so you can sequence your revision; the exam can test any part of the guide your school has taught.

How are the World Religions predictions calculated?

We tag every question part of every past paper to the topic of the guide it examines, then count how often each one has come up and weight it by the marks it carried. Because Paper 1 asks about all nine traditions every session and Paper 2 covers all six, the ranking is most useful within a tradition — it tells you whether a question on, say, Islam has historically been more likely to come from rituals than from sacred texts.

Do pre-2017 papers still count, given the mark structure changed?

Yes, for content — the syllabus itself did not change in 2017, only the mark structure did. Paper 1 part (b) moved from 7 marks to 6 and now always uses “explain”, and Paper 2 moved from six markbands to five with each essay out of 15 instead of 20. A pre-2017 question is still a fair question on the same syllabus; just mark your answer against the current bands rather than the ones printed on the old markscheme.

How should I revise with them?

Start with the themes that come up most often in the two traditions your school studies in depth, and make sure every theme has at least one specific example — a named text, ritual, festival, figure or contemporary case — attached to it. Then broaden out. Use the ranking to sequence revision, not to skip a theme: all five are examinable in every sitting.
