Key Idea: The reading part of Paper 2 has three texts on the course themes, for 40 marks, in around an hour. You can re-read the texts as often as you like.
Format & rubric
- Skim — Read the text quickly for the general idea.
- Read the question — Know what you are looking for before you search.
- Scan — Look for the key words, or words that mean the same.
- Locate — Find the exact line.
- Answer — Answer from that line. Paraphrase it if the question asks.
Watch out
- Don't answer from memory. The answer is always in the text.
- A familiar word in an option can be a trap.
Prove every answer with a line you can point to.
The question says «contento». The text says «feliz». Same idea? Yes. Questions often use a synonym of the word in the text.
You think you remember the answer. Do you write it straight away? No. Find the line first to make sure.
What do you read first: the text or the question? Skim the text, then read the question, then search.
An option repeats a word from the text. Is it the answer? Not always. Check that the meaning matches.
