Step by step

  1. Variance = np(1 − p).
  2. Standard deviation = √variance.

Final answer

Variance = 8; standard deviation ≈ 2.83.

Use (1 − p), not p, twice: Variance is np(1 − p) — multiply by both p and (1 − p); a common slip is np² or n p.
