Key concepts in About Paper 2 Listening

Key Idea: Paper 2 Listening has 3 audio texts, and you hear each one twice. It is worth 25 marks, and only the right answer counts, not how good your French is.

Format & rubric

  1. Read — Read the questions before the audio starts.
  2. Predict — Guess what kind of answer you will hear.
  3. Gist — First listen: the main idea.
  4. Detail — Second listen: the exact detail.
  5. Check — Short, correct answers. Never a blank.

Traps

  • A word you recognise in an option is not proof that it is right.
  • Respect «un maximum de trois mots».
You do not need every word, only the one detail each question asks for.

What is the first listen for? The gist: the general idea.

What do you do before the audio starts? Read the questions and predict what you will hear.

You missed an answer. Leave it blank? No. Write your best short answer.

An option uses a word you just heard. Is it right? Not always. Check the meaning, not the word.
