IB Chemistry SL Notes

Chemistry

Aimnova offers free IB Chemistry SL revision notes for the first-exams-2025 syllabus, covering all six themes from Structure 1 to Reactivity 3. Each topic includes clear concept explanations, Lewis and VSEPR diagrams, reaction profiles and energy cycles, formula-first worked examples, spaced-repetition flashcards, and IB-style practice questions with AI feedback — no sign-up required to read the notes.

IB Chemistry SL is built on two big ideas across six themes: Structure (the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter — the periodic table and organic functional groups) and Reactivity (what drives reactions through energetics; how much, how fast and how far through stoichiometry, kinetics and equilibrium; and the mechanisms of proton transfer, electron transfer and electron sharing). Every topic links the chemistry to the data booklet and the experimental and data skills examiners reward.

These notes are organised theme-by-theme according to the official IB syllabus, so you can revise systematically for Paper 1 (Paper 1A multiple choice plus Paper 1B data-based questions) and Paper 2 (short-answer and extended-response). SL students sit no Paper 3 and no options, and the data booklet is provided in every paper, so the focus stays on mastering the core themes and using the booklet quickly.

What's included

  • All 6 themes (Structure 1–3 + Reactivity 1–3), aligned to the first-exams-2025 syllabus
  • Concept notes with Lewis/VSEPR structures, reaction profiles, Hess cycles and the periodic table
  • Formula-first worked examples for the mole, enthalpy, Kc, pH and rate calculations
  • Spaced-repetition flashcards for definitions, equations, and command-term recall
  • IB-style practice questions with AI marking and feedback
  • Guidance for Paper 1 (1A MCQ + 1B data) and Paper 2 (short + extended), with data-booklet technique
  • SL and HL coverage with level toggle
  • Free to access — no account required for notes

How to use Chemistry notes

  1. 1Start with a unit overview. Click any theme heading to see every sub-topic and the key chemistry it covers.
  2. 2Read micro-topic notes. Read one topic at a time and follow the concept, the diagram, and the formula-first worked example.
  3. 3Test with flashcards. Use Chemistry flashcards to lock in definitions, equations, and command-term answers.
  4. 4Practise exam questions. Apply the method to IB-style questions and get AI feedback on where marks are won and lost.
