Know the papers

The biggest revision mistake is studying content but ignoring format. Know exactly what each paper asks for before you start practising.

Paper 1SL + HL1 h 30 min (SL and HL)35% (SL) / 25% (HL)

Pre-released case study with structured questions. Section A: answer all short-answer questions. Section B: answer one analysis/evaluation question.

  • Read the question first, then search the case study for relevant evidence
  • Use the case company by name — generic answers lose marks
  • For extended responses: define, apply to the case, analyse, then evaluate
  • Always refer back to the data and exhibits provided
Paper 2SL + HL1 h 30 min (SL) / 1 h 45 min (HL)35% (SL) / 30% (HL)

Unseen stimulus material with structured questions. Section A: answer all questions. Section B: answer one extended-response question.

  • Allocate roughly 1.5 min per mark — manage your time carefully
  • Show calculations clearly for quantitative questions — method marks matter
  • Use business terminology precisely — examiners reward subject-specific language
  • Structure evaluations: strengths → limitations → justified conclusion
Paper 3HL only1 h 15 min25% (HL)

Unseen stimulus material. Answer all questions. Requires integration of knowledge from multiple units.

  • Practise synthesising content from different units into a single answer
  • Social enterprise context is key — consider social objectives alongside profit
  • Plan extended answers before writing — structure earns marks
  • Use financial and non-financial evidence from the case to support your arguments
