⚙️ What are Business Functions?

Definition: Business functions are the main areas of activity within a business that work together to achieve organizational objectives.

Think of business functions like organs in a body — each has a specific job, but they must all work together for the business to survive and thrive!

  • Human Resources (HR)
  • Finance and Accounts
  • Marketing
  • Operations
These four functions form the backbone of the IB Business Management course — you'll study each one in depth!

🤝 How Functions Work Together

Business functions don't operate in isolation — they must collaborate to achieve success.

Example: Launching a new product requires Marketing (research & promotion), Operations (production), Finance (budgeting), and HR (staffing).
  • Marketing identifies what customers want
  • Operations produces the product
  • Finance ensures there's money to fund it
  • HR recruits the people needed
If functions don't communicate well, problems arise — like marketing promising features operations can't deliver!
